Herbal Medicine & Supplements at Thrive

Herbal medicine is one of the oldest and most extensively documented healing traditions in the world. At Thrive Integrative Medicine, Dr. Tyler Andres prescribes custom herbal formulas and targeted nutritional supplements as an extension of your in-clinic treatment, helping your body continue to heal and recover between sessions.

Unlike generic over-the-counter supplements, the herbal formulas Dr. Andres recommends are selected based on your specific condition, constitution, and treatment goals. Drawing from the classical Chinese pharmacopoeia and modern nutritional science, he identifies the herbs and supplements that will best support your body's healing process.

Herbal medicine works synergistically with acupuncture, dry needling, and bodywork. While hands-on treatments address the structural and neuromuscular components of your condition, herbs and supplements provide internal support: reducing inflammation, strengthening tissues, supporting immune function, and helping the body maintain the progress made during treatment sessions.

Herbal Medicine & Supplements FAQs

Are herbal medicines safe to take with prescription medications?

Dr. Andres reviews all of your current medications before prescribing any herbal formulas. Some herbs can interact with pharmaceutical drugs, so it is important to disclose your full medication list. He will only recommend herbs and supplements that are safe alongside your existing prescriptions.

What forms do the herbs come in?

Herbal formulas are available in several forms including granule powders (dissolved in hot water), capsules, tinctures (liquid extracts), and whole herbs for decoction. Dr. Andres will recommend the form that is most practical and effective for your specific situation.

How long will I need to take herbal medicine?

This depends on your condition. Acute issues may only require a short course of 2 to 4 weeks. Chronic conditions or long-term wellness support may benefit from several months of herbal therapy. Dr. Andres reassesses your formula regularly and adjusts or discontinues it as your condition improves.

Do I need to be an acupuncture patient to get herbal recommendations?

While herbal medicine works best as part of a comprehensive treatment plan that includes acupuncture and bodywork, Dr. Andres can also provide standalone herbal consultations for patients who prefer an internal medicine approach or who want to supplement care they are receiving elsewhere.

Where are the herbs sourced from?

Dr. Andres sources herbs and supplements from reputable, quality-tested suppliers that follow Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Products are tested for purity, potency, and safety. He prioritizes professional-grade formulas that meet the highest standards in the industry.
