Performance Care for Athletes & Active Individuals

You do not need to be injured to benefit from sports medicine. At Thrive Integrative Medicine, Dr. Tyler Andres works with athletes and active individuals who want to optimize how their body moves, recovers, and performs. Whether you are training for a race, pushing through a competitive season, or simply trying to stay active and pain-free as you age, performance care helps you get more from your body.

Salida is home to some of Colorado's most active people: skiers, climbers, mountain bikers, trail runners, paddlers, and hikers who put serious demands on their bodies year-round. Dr. Andres understands the physical toll of high-altitude, high-activity living and builds treatment plans that address the specific needs of each athlete and sport.

Using acupuncture, dry needling, myofascial release, cupping, and herbal support, Dr. Andres targets the neuromuscular and fascial systems that govern movement efficiency, recovery speed, and injury resilience. The result is a body that moves better, recovers faster, and stays healthier across training cycles and seasons.

Athletic Performance & Recovery FAQs

Do I need to be a competitive athlete to benefit from performance care?

Not at all. Performance care is for anyone who wants to move better and stay active. Whether you are a competitive racer, a weekend mountain biker, a daily yoga practitioner, or someone who hikes and skis recreationally, optimizing how your body moves and recovers will improve your experience and reduce your risk of injury.

How close to a race or event can I get treatment?

Dr. Andres can provide treatment right up to the day before an event, depending on the modality. Light acupuncture and gentle bodywork can be done 24 to 48 hours before competition. Deep dry needling or intensive myofascial work is best scheduled at least 3 to 5 days out to allow your body to integrate the treatment.

Can acupuncture and dry needling improve athletic recovery?

Yes. Both therapies increase blood flow to treated areas, reduce muscle tension, calm the nervous system, and promote faster tissue repair. Many professional and elite athletes incorporate acupuncture and dry needling into their recovery protocols for exactly these reasons.

How often should athletes get treatment?

This depends on your training volume, sport, and goals. During heavy training blocks or competitive seasons, weekly or biweekly sessions are common. During maintenance or off-season periods, monthly sessions can help keep your body balanced and resilient. Dr. Andres will recommend a schedule that fits your training cycle.

What sports do you work with most often?

Given Salida's location, Dr. Andres commonly works with trail runners, mountain bikers, road cyclists, skiers (alpine and nordic), climbers, paddlers, and CrossFit athletes. However, his approach is adaptable to any sport or physical activity. The principles of movement efficiency, recovery, and injury prevention apply universally.
