What Is Dry Needling
Dry needling is a modern, evidence-based technique that uses thin filiform needles to target myofascial trigger points, which are hyperirritable knots within tight bands of muscle. These trigger points often refer pain to other areas of the body and can restrict range of motion, reduce strength, and contribute to chronic pain patterns.
Dry needling focuses specifically on the muscular and myofascial network. The needle creates a localized twitch response in the muscle, releasing the trigger point, improving blood flow, and restoring normal muscle function. Dr Andres has additional training that moves well beyond trigger point twitch responses, and integrates muscle motor points and neuromuscular activation to change movement patterns and increase brain to body connections.
Dr. Tyler Andres brings 15 years of advanced dry needling experience to every session. His approach combines precise anatomical knowledge with a thorough understanding of movement patterns and pain science, allowing him to identify and treat the true source of dysfunction rather than chasing symptoms.

Dry Needling FAQs
Does dry needling hurt?
Most patients describe the sensation as a deep ache or brief muscle twitch rather than sharp pain. The twitch response can feel surprising at first but typically lasts only a second. Mild soreness afterward is common and usually resolves within 24 to 48 hours.
What is the difference between dry needling and acupuncture?
While both use thin filiform needles, they target different systems. Dry needling focuses on the neuromuscular system, specifically targeting myofascial trigger points based on Western anatomy and pain science. Acupuncture is rooted in East Asian medicine and works along meridian pathways to regulate the nervous system. Dr. Andres is trained in both and often combines them for a comprehensive approach.
How many dry needling sessions will I need?
Many patients notice improvement after just one or two sessions for acute conditions. Chronic issues or deeply established trigger points may require a series of treatments. Dr. Andres will evaluate your progress and adjust the treatment plan at each visit.
Is dry needling safe?
Yes. When performed by a trained and experienced practitioner, dry needling is a safe and well-tolerated treatment. Dr. Andres uses sterile, single-use, disposable needles and follows strict safety protocols for every session.
